The Sacramento Kings entered the offseason with a major decision to make regarding the future of their franchise after missing the playoffs once again last season.
While many around the NBA expected the kings to begin a rebuild after trading De’Aaron Fox last season, Sacramento instead has elected to upgrade their roster around their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine to chase a playoff spot next season.
So far this summer, the Kings have added Nique Clifford, Maxime Raynaud and Dennis Schroder to their roster and while those may be solid additions, Sacramento may still need to make more moves to be a playoff contender in the loaded Western Conference next season.
With this in mind, Sports Illustrated’s Rohan Raman recently released a mock trade that would see the Kings send Sabonis to the Miami Heat for three players with the Atlanta Hawks also being involved.
In the trade, the Kings would send Sabonis, Malik Monk, a top-five protected 2027 first-round pick and a 2031 first-round pick to the Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Terry Rozier and Kel’el Ware.
Miami would also send Jaime Jaquez Jr. to the Hawks for a 2031 second-round pick.
This would be an interesting trade for the Kings as they would add more backcourt help and a young center in Ware who showed a ton of potential during his rookie season last year.
Of course, it would be a difficult decision for the Kings to move on from Sabonis but with their struggles over the past handful of seasons, it may be time to change their roster and this trade would do just that.
While that may be the case, Herro’s fit in the lineup next to LaVine is a questionable one and Rozier’s struggles last season may be a cause for concern.
Despite this, Herro would give the Kings another great scoring guard who could become their new starting point guard since he does have some experience in that role during his time with the Heat.
Ware would also be a major addition to the Kings’ frontcourt as he would be a solid replacement for Sabonis and would also form a young duo inside of him and Keegan Murray.
While this trade may work out well for the Kings, the Heat may not want to move on from both Herro and Ware this offseason, though pairing Sabonis alongside Bam Adebayo would make their frontcourt one of the best in the NBA.
