The Boston Celtics have been shell-shocked in the first two games of their playoff series against the New York Knicks.

Boston is down 2-0 in the series, something nobody thought would happen.

New York won both games by three points or less. The Knicks took game one 108-105 and game two 91-90.

The Boston Celtics find themselves down 2-0 because they are not making shots.

Boson Celtics Shooting 25% From Three Against New York Knicks

Simply put, the Boston Celtics are trailing 2-0 because they have been unable to shoot threes at an efficient rate like they have all season.

  • Boston Celtics Game One 3-Pointers: 15/60 (25%)
  • Boston Celtics Game Two 3-Pointers: 10/40 (25%)
  • During the season, Boston ranked 12th in 3-point percentage.

Out of the 100 3-point attempts, 48 have been uncontested by the Knicks. This means that 48 out of the 100 3-point shot attempts the Celtics attempt, no Knicks player was within six feet. During the season, Boston was shooting 42% on uncontested three-point attempts.

Jayson Tatum went 4-15 in game one and 1-5 in game two on 3-point attempts. Jaylen Brown went 1-10 in game one and 2-7 in game two on 3-point attempts. Derrick White went 5-16 in game one and 3-11 in game two on 3-point attempts.

Here are the 3-point percentages during the season for Tatum, Brown, and White.

    • Jayson Tatum: 34.3%
    • Jaylen Brown: 32.4%
    • Derrick White: 38.4%
  • Are The Celtics Done?

Despite being down 2-0, the Boston Celtics are not done.

They need to shoot better. The Knicks have shot better from three and field goals in games one and two.

It is uncharacteristic of Boston to miss so many uncontested three-point shots.

No scheme needs to change. Joe Mazzula is not getting outcoached by Tom Thibodeau.

The Celtics simply did not shoot the ball well in games one and two.

However, despite being down 2-0, this is very correctable, and the Boston Celtics can still easily come back and win the series.
