As the Boston Celtics prepare for a season without Jayson Tatum, much of their payroll will be dedicated to the injured star.
The Boston Celtics had their hopes for the 2025-26 NBA season shattered in May, as the injury to Jayson Tatum in the playoffs proved to be the end for them.
Given the mounting cost of keeping their roster together, the Celtics had to make some tough decisions. To start out, the Celtics trade Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks.
Taking things further, the Celtics also sent Jrue Holiday to the Trail Blazers, thus taking two of their starters off their books.
But despite these moves, the Celtics still have one of the most expensive rosters in the NBA, and are paying a lot of money to keep hold of these players.
The Boston Celtics are paying over $200 million in salaries next season, which ranks among the highest in the NBA.
This is what the Boston Celtics’ salary structure looks like:
Player | 2025-26 Salary |
Jayson Tatum | $54,126,450 |
Jaylen Brown | $53,142,264 |
Derrick White | $28,100,000 |
Anfernee Simons | $27,678,571 |
Sam Hauser | $10,044,644 |
Payton Pritchard | $7,232,143 |
Chris Boucher | $3,287,409 |
Hugo Gonzales | $2,783,880 |
Baylor Scheierman | $2,619,000 |
Xavier Tillman | $2,546,675 |
Luka Garza | $2,461,463 |
Ron Harper Jr. | $2,378,870 |
Josh Minott | $2,378,870 |
Neemias Queta | $2,349,578 |
Jordan Walsh | $2,221,677 |
Hayden Gray | $1,272,870 |
RJ Luis Jr. (Two-Way) | $636,435 |
Max Shulga (Two-Way) | $636,435 |
Miles Norris (Two-Way) | $636,435 |
Total | $204,311,991 |
The Boston Celtics have one of the most expensive rosters in the entire NBA. However, no one has them down as a contender next season.
A huge part of their competitive plans fell apart when Jayson Tatum was ruled out for the 2025-26 NBA season.
But with his massive salary, along with Jaylen Brown, still on the books, the Celtics had very little flexibility when putting this roster together.
The Celtics could try and stay afloat next season, with younger players like Payton Pritchard earning starting opportunities.
But the likelihood of them competing for an NBA championship, or even being a top team in the East is quite low.
