Boston Celtics supporters fear the worst for Jayson Tatum after he suffered a painful non-contact injury during last night’s 121-113 Game 4 loss against the New York Knicks.
Tatum crumbled to the floor while going for a loose ball with 3:07 left in the final period. OG Anunoby ended up with the ball and scored on the other end to put New York up 113-104.
It was a huge gut punch for the Boston Celtics, as Tatum was in the middle of his best performance this series. The one-time NBA champion recorded 42 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, two blocks, and seven three-pointers on 16-for-28 shooting from the field.
The Boston Celtics are one loss away from being eliminated in the second round, but the team is more worried about Tatum’s health.
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla shared an ominous update on Jayson Tatum’s injury during the postgame press conference. Mazzulla said Tatum’s inability to get up on his power worried him.
“I was obviously worried about someone’s health,” Mazzulla said about Tatum via SB Nation’s Noa Dalzell. “The fact that he got carried off — he’s the type of guy that gets right up. We’ll know tomorrow exactly what it is, but it’s tough to watch a guy like him get carried off like that.”
Many fans believe Tatum ruptured his Achilles yesterday, which might mean a full calendar year on the sidelines. This will put Boston in a difficult spot, especially with its complicated salary cap situation.
