Boston Celtics Release Former Duke Star

DJ Steward is coming off a year where he played in the G League for the Stockton Kings.

The 22-year-old averaged 12.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest while shooting 45.8% from the field and 40.9% from the three-point range in 28 regular season games (he also appeared in 17 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff games).

This summer, Steward signed a deal with the Boston Celtics, but he has now been waived.

Via Keith Smith of Spotrac: "The Boston Celtics have signed-and-waived Reginald Kissoonlal, a league source tells @spotrac.

The Celtics have also waived D.J. Steward.

Both players will play for the Maine Celtics in this G League season."

Steward initially went undrafted in 2021 after one season of playing college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils.

During his one season in college, he averaged 13.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 42.6% from the field and 34.1% from the three-point range in 24 games.
