After the New York Knicks eliminated the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, it was later confirmed that star wing Jaylen Brown played hurt. More specifically, he was playing on a partially torn meniscus (via ESPN's Ramona Shelburne).
Beforehand, it had been confirmed that Brown was having knee issues, but that didn't stop him from missing any playoff games. However, Brown's meniscus injury, along with Jayson Tatum's torn Achilles, undoubtedly played a hand in sealing the Celtics' fate.
However, it appears Brown's partial meniscus tear was something that he had been dealing with for some time.
On Monday, Celtics' President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens gave full details on Brown's knee. During his end-of-season press conference, Stevens revealed more details on what Brown had been dealing with and for how long.
"What was reported this weekend, that's been something that he's had for a while," Stevens said, per CLNS Media's Noa Dalzell. "I think he actually felt better, at least he told me he felt better at the end of the Knicks series."

Since Brown's partial meniscus tear was confirmed, there has been no news concerning whether he'll get surgery. With a longer offseason, Brown will get more rest for his knee.
Brown has suffered multiple injuries that have kept him out for long periods. However, he's had only one surgery since entering the NBA, when he tore a ligament in his wrist during the 2020-21 season.
Even then, Brown tried to play through it before opting for season-ending surgery that forced him to miss that postseason.
