Brad Stevens: Marcus Smart doing well after positive COVID-19 test

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart tested positive for COVID-19 last week, but he's apparently doing very well, according to head coach Brad Stevens.

"Great. He's great. Great spirits. Joking as always," Stevens said Friday morning on a conference call with local media, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps. "We had a Zoom [video conference call] with the team, told the team we were going to give them their own space to hang out and have fun — and he told us to get off.

"So he's great."

Smart and the C's were ready to face the Milwaukee Bucks in front of an empty arena before the NBA announced it was putting its season on hold after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Celtics, who played the Jazz a week before Gobert's positive test, flew home immediately and self-quarantined due to coronavirus fears.

Stevens said everyone is keeping tabs on Smart's condition, and he's extremely proud of the 26-year-old for bringing awareness to such an important cause.

"We landed from Milwaukee 15 days ago now, and he's been feeling good," Stevens said. I've checked in with him as everybody else has, very regularly. I've seen him on conference calls a few times, and he seems to be doing really well.

"I'm proud of how he kinda took the initiative to tell people that he had it and that he felt good and that he got online and just continued to ask people to practice social distancing and self-isolation right now. It's a really unique, unsettling time for everyone."

While there is no word on when, or if,  the NBA season will resume, many of the players who tested positive are in good spirits.
