Bradley Beal’s latest stance on his Phoenix Suns future and possible trade this offseason

It has been a long two seasons for Phoenix Suns fans, as the Bradley Beal experiment failed.

He is still with the team, but his contract remains an obstacle for the Suns. With Phoenix looking for a new direction, a trade could open up for Beal.

The Phoenix Suns were one of the most exciting teams ahead of the 2023-24 season. They had a legitimate trio of All-Stars with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal. It was a group of accomplished scorers, but the surrounding roster was suboptimal.

That led to them losing in a first-round sweep in 2024 and missing the postseason in 2025. It was an unsalvageable project, which led to Durant’s trade to the Houston Rockets. They got the most out of Durant’s value, getting Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks in return.

That leaves the Suns with a logjam at shooting guard with Bradley Beal, Booker, and Green. Unfortunately, Beal is the odd man out, as Green will want to prove his worth. Due to his no-trade clause, he can block any trade involving him, but he is open to a move.

Beal would welcome a move to a team he prefers

As a player with a no-trade clause, Beal can cherry-pick the teams he wants to play for. Teams do not want to pay $50+ million to have Beal on the roster if he delivers a lackluster performance.

Some people like Bill Simmons have proposed the idea of Beal waiving his no-trade clause. That could be a good plan, but that will require difficult decisions from the Suns’ front office. Team owner Mat Ishbia could force their hand to do it, but it could be a bad look.

Beal is open to a move away from Phoenix, but that will depend on where he ends up. This is a tough situation for the Suns, as they can’t find the right landing spot for Beal. No team wants to touch the contract, as it has become an unavoidable issue.

His preference is to stay in Phoenix and compete for his spot, but that leaves Jordan Ott with an issue.

Ott might need to relegate one of Green or Beal to the bench, which is a tough decision. They are both earning a huge salary, so it will not look good if they sit on the bench.

The Suns will struggle to compete in the Western Conference

Durant is off to better things with the Rockets, while the Suns remain down in the dumps. This situation with Beal and his contract is hampering the team’s ceiling. They have a legitimate superstar in Booker, but they are not maximizing his talent with the limitations.

Trading for Beal was a decent idea due to his All-Star-level scoring. Unfortunately, that deprived the rest of the roster beyond their trio. Since they failed to contend for a championship, the Suns are in limbo.

Booker wants to stay, but this situation might force his hand. He could ask for a trade in the future, as he nears his 30s. If he wants to compete for a championship, staying with the Suns pulls him away from that goal.

The Suns must find a resolution to their Beal conundrum, as they might lose even more if he sticks around. He looks unbothered about it, which could frustrate Suns fans even more.
