Brandin Podziemski saw many colors of the NBA this season, especially with the Golden State Warriors; he had things coming to him.

Initially, the superstar shooting guard had to bear much of the impact for the Bay Area team as the roster kept falling to an uncontrollable number of injuries, one we saw with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

However, after spending three seasons at the camp, the 2023 NBA Draftee isn’t leaving much room for ambiguity when it comes to his future in the Golden State.

Fresh off a career-best third season, the 23-year-old guard made it clear during exit interviews that he wants to remain in the Bay Area long-term and hopes to secure a contract extension before the October 31 deadline.

“I want to be here for the long term,” Podziemski said. “It’s always special having the team that drafted you, so hopefully we can get something done.”

That said, he is now extension-eligible after a season in which he averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while playing all 82 games, also one of just 18 players league-wide to do so.

His durability and late-season surge, especially during stretches without Curry and Jimmy Butler, strengthened his case as a foundational piece moving forward.

Still, he understands the business side. The contrasting contract paths of Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga offered a real-time lesson. Moody secured stability early, while Kuminga’s prolonged negotiations ultimately ended in a trade.

For now, discussions haven’t formally begun, but Podz remains confident his agent and general manager, Mike Dunleavy, will handle that process in the coming months.

Should the Warriors See A Long-Term Future With Brandin Podziemski?

Brandin Podziemski’s late-season surge may have answered a question the Golden State Warriors couldn’t ignore all year, but there’s still speculation about whether he can be part of their next core.

The numbers suggest a strong case. Podziemski averaged 18.1 points in March and April, stepping into a larger on-ball role when front-line players were sitting on the sidelines.

More importantly, he finished the season leading the team in total minutes, rebounds, and steals, while ranking second in points and assists.

That kind of all-around production, combined with playing all 82 games, looks promising, keeping durability and trust in sight as the two main traits Golden State has lacked in recent seasons.
