New York Knicks star receives Stephen Curry comparison from Brian Scalabrine amid terrific 2025 postseason run.
After beating the Boston Celtics in the second round, the New York Knicks finally ended their 25-year conference finals drought.
Although the Knicks are currently facing a 1-0 deficit in ECF following a three-point Game 1 loss, many expect the team to make a comeback.
A huge reason behind that trust is the presence of stars like Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns on the roster.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is undoubtedly the best shooter of all time. On top of that, Curry has a huge impact on the Warriors.
This was seen as the Dubs failed to win even a single game after Curry went down with a hamstring strain in Game 1 of the second round against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Former Boston Celtic Brian Scalabrine compared Brunson’s presence on the court to that of Steph via WEEI 93.7 FM.
“Are they championship mettle, they don’t look like it, but a lot like Steph Curry, and I’ve coached Steph and I’ve been around Brunson, they have a lot of similarities in their mindset, and I think that holds true in why those two have had a lot of success.
“The guy is 6ft 1″, he’s incredible,” Scalabrine said.
So far, Brunson has averaged 29.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game in the 2025 NBA Playoffs as he remains the most important member of the Knicks.
When a player like Curry or Brunson is on the court, there is a rather underrated passive impact on the rest of the team.
Scalabrine talked about it as he pointed out key players who played a huge role in his NBA career.
“Just like anything I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m not anything as a player unless I’m with a really good player.
“I got a chance to play with Jason Kidd early on, and Rondo and Pierce and Garnett and Allen, those guys, that allowed me to be a better NBA player than I actually was,” Scalabrine added.
On that note, Scalabrine believes just the presence of Brunson on the court plays a massive role in how the Knicks play on any given night.
“I think Brunson has that gravity towards him, the rest of those guys, they gain their confidence from Brunson.”
