Brian Windhorst Says Lakers Will Draft Bronny James If He's Available
James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Brian Windhorst's recent comments on 'Get Up' regarding the Los Angeles Lakers potentially drafting Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, have sparked considerable interest and speculation among basketball enthusiasts.

"Over the last few months, Rich Paul, who's the agent for LeBron and Bronny James, has made an effort to part the concept that drafting Bronny James means you're getting LeBron."

"I do believe LeBron is going to opt out of his contract next month, and I do believe he's got several reasons why he wants to do that and leaving optionality for playing with Bronny is on the list, but I don't think it's at the top. I do think he's going to be back with the Lakers."

"And I also will say this, I think if the Lakers have an opportunity to draft Bronny James, they will do so. Whether that's with the 55th pick or if they make another deal around the draft where they pick up another pick, I think they will try. I do not think it's going to be their top priority."

Windhorst's insights shed light on the Lakers' draft strategy and LeBron James' future plans. He noted that while drafting Bronny James does not guarantee the acquisition of LeBron, it's a scenario the Lakers might pursue.

Despite Rich Paul, agent for both LeBron and Bronny, attempting to dispel the notion that drafting Bronny equates to getting LeBron, Windhorst suggested that LeBron opting out of his contract next month could open up possibilities for a father-son team-up.

The Lakers currently hold the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and Windhorst believes they may consider selecting Bronny if the opportunity arises. However, he emphasized that drafting Bronny may not be the Lakers' top priority, suggesting that other factors will influence their decision-making process.

Windhorst also highlighted the curiosity surrounding Bronny's individual aspirations and potential. NBA scouts are keen to hear directly from Bronny about his future plans, separate from his father. There's a belief among scouts that Bronny may have played out of position during his freshman season at USC and possesses an untapped potential that has yet to be fully realized.

The NBA Draft, scheduled for June, will provide further clarity on Bronny's future and the Lakers' draft strategy. While LeBron's intentions to re-sign with the Lakers seem likely, the prospect of a father-son duo playing together in the NBA adds an intriguing narrative to the upcoming draft.

Reports indicate that the Lakers, are eager to bring LeBron back for the upcoming seasons and potentially facilitate a scenario where he can play alongside Bronny.

As the draft approaches, basketball fans eagerly await developments regarding Bronny's draft status and the potential implications for the Lakers and LeBron James. Whether Bronny ultimately joins the Lakers or another team, his journey in the NBA promises to be a compelling storyline in the league's landscape.
