Bronny James' NBA journey has been under scrutiny, particularly following a shaky start in the G League with the Los Angeles Lakers' affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
His transition into professional basketball was met with high expectations, but his early performances raised questions about his readiness.
However, since the conclusion of the G League Tip-Off Tournament and the start of the regular season, James has found his rhythm — something he showcased once again over the weekend.
On Saturday, the 20-year-old delivered a standout performance, scoring 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including four three-pointers. He also contributed across the board with five rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block, capping off a well-rounded effort.
James' all-around game reflected his growth as a player, as he demonstrated both offensive efficiency and defensive impact. He looked confident as he orchestrated the offense and made an impact on the defensive end, playing a key role in South Bay’s 118-98 win over the Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns’ affiliate.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for South Bay, which sits 14th in the Western Conference with a 6-14 record. This win was crucial for a team that has been struggling but now appears poised to turn a corner with James' development and the recent additions of Cole Swider and Stanley Johnson.
With each game, the 6-foot-3 point guard appears more comfortable and composed. Following Saturday’s win, he credited some of his recent growth to observing Lakers superstar Luka Doncic. He pointed to Doncic's playing style as a key source of inspiration, noting his patience and unpredictability on the court.
"Just his patience. Just being able to be unpredictable. You never know what he’s going to do. That’s the best thing I’ve seen so far from. I just keep trying to pick up stuff from him," James told Raj Chipalu of ClutchPoints.
Through six regular-season games, James is averaging 22.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game while shooting an impressive 42.6 percent from three-point range. This marks a significant improvement from his performance in the Tip-Off Tournament, where he struggled, shooting just 36.6 percent from the field and 21.2 percent from deep.
It’s not uncommon for young players to adjust and improve as a G League season progresses, particularly for a 20-year-old rookie still acclimating to the professional level. But James appears to be thriving in South Bay’s low-pressure environment, allowing him to develop at his own pace — one game at a time.
