Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James has been in and out of the lineup for head coach JJ Redick this season. In his second year in L.A., the 6-foot-2 shooting guard has made 32 appearances, making one start. During that stretch, the 21-year-old has produced averages of 2.1 points and 1.2 assists in 7.0 minutes per contest.
James has been on the move for pretty much the entire season. He has gone back and forth between the NBA and the NBA G League, spending time with the South Bay Lakers multiple times this year.
His most recent stint with South Bay was earlier this month. He was recalled to the NBA on March 14 but has yet to see any playing time since rejoining the Lakers.
James has made the most out of his time in the G League, though. He’s already played 12 games for South Bay this season, helping the team secure a spot in the upcoming G League playoffs.
While James has struggled to stay relevant with the Lakers in the NBA, it has been a much different story for the former USC Trojans standout in the G League. In 12 games played, James is averaging 15.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.0 triples in 28.3 minutes per game.
What makes this even more impressive is that James has been very efficient for South Bay. In fact, the latest development on the former second-round pick is that he’s on pace to join the 50/40/90 club this season.

James is currently shooting 54.6% overall, 42.1% from three-point territory and 90.9% from the charity stripe. If he keeps this up, he has a chance to enter an elite club of highly efficient shooters in the G League.
James’ strong play with South Bay says a lot. It proves that he is fully capable of competing against some of the best players in the world. At the same time, this also speaks volumes about the talent disparity between the G League and the NBA.
