Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James recently wrapped up his 22nd NBA season and has already committed to another year after opting into his $52.6 million player option.
Meanwhile, speculation about him leaving Los Angeles started after comments made by his agent, Rich Paul, on Sunday.
"LeBron wants to compete for a championship," Paul told ESPN. "He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career."
James has always been focused on winning championships, and after losing in five games in the first round of the playoffs this past season, he might feel that L.A. isn’t the place to do that, especially with only a few years left in his career.
If the four-time NBA MVP wants out, it would have to come via trade or wait till he's a free agent next summer.
On Wednesday, his son and Lakers teammate, Bronny James, spoke about the speculation surrounding his father.
"Actually, one of my friends called me, talking about what I was going to do, because they seen my dad, whatever," Bronny James told the media. "I didn't see it, he called me, I was like, 'yeah, I have no idea what you're talking about,' so ... Yeah, I don't really pay attention to that stuff. There's a lot of stuff going around that I don't pay attention to."

Bronny James was also asked if he's gotten the "sense" that L.A. is where LeBron James wants to be.
"We don't really talk about it much, but I think when stuff like that does come up, he just tells me to not worry about it, not even pay attention to it, just lock into what you have going on right now," Bronny James said. "And that's what's going to get me better and keep me focused. I think it's good that he tells me to not pay attention to that stuff," he said.
Bronny James is entering his second professional season after being selected No. 55 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. This past year, the 20-year-old split time between the Lakers’ G League team and the NBA squad.
In 27 appearances with L.A., he averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
As for LeBron James, he's now 40 years old and has shown he still has plenty left in the tank. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game.
