Brooklyn Nets Acquire $215 Million Star in Intriguing Trade Idea
Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

Thanks to a number of assets at their disposal, the Brooklyn Nets can go shopping for a star during the offseason. Among the options that can be considered by the franchise is acquiring All-Star Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls.

LaVine spent the first three years of his career playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves. During that period, the young guard averaged 13.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, while showing flashes of becoming a dominant scorer. At the same time, he also captured national attention when he had two legendary All-Star Dunk Contest performances during his time in Minnesota.

He was later traded to the Chicago Bulls for a package headlined by All-Star Jimmy Butler. Since then, LaVine fully realized his potential as a talented scorer who can put up an insane number of points on any given night. He also steadily improved his outside shot to become a legitimate offensive threat from anywhere on the court.

Unfortunately, the Bulls never seemed to get over the hump, even with LaVine playing his best. Thanks to various injuries over the years, his overall effectiveness for Chicago has somewhat reached a ceiling.

Brooklyn Nets Go For Chicago Bulls Star Zach LaVine in Intriguing Trade Proposal

On one hand, LaVine’s time in Chicago may soon come to an end. On the other, the Nets are in need of a number one option to anchor the team’s offense. Take these two together and an intriguing trade proposal by Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes for the Bulls star might be the solution Brooklyn is looking for.

“That makes Brooklyn a reasonable landing spot for LaVine who, if healthy after a season almost totally lost to an ankle injury, could provide high-level scoring to a team that needs it. At the very least, he’ll be more helpful than Simmons, who’s played 57 games across the last three seasons and currently owns perhaps the worst dollar-to-production ratio in the league,” Hughes wrote.

Even if Brooklyn’s front office doesn’t see LaVine as part of their long-term future, they can still flip him to another team for a better star. Either way, they would be injecting more interest to a team that struggled to remain relevant during the previous regular season.

There is a chance Chicago might move on from LaVine in the coming months. And while the Nets aren’t a lock yet to land the Bulls’ two-time All-Star, Brooklyn’s front office should greatly consider what he can bring to the table for the team.
