French point guard Nolan Traore was selected by the Brooklyn Nets with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. His American pro career now begins.

Playing for Saint-Quentin this past season, Traore played 30 games over the course of the year. Traore averaged 11.6 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game, shot 39.2% from the floor and 30.4% from three-point range.

The 19-year-old began playing for Centre Federal from 2021-24 before playing for Saint-Quentin. Hailing from Creteil, Val-de-Marne, France, Traore was named the FIBA Champions League Best Young Player in 2025.

Traore came into the 2025 NBA Draft as a projected lottery pick. Originally, he had offers from numerous college basketball programs but opted to stay in France when he signed a contract in June of 2024.

What NBA Draft experts are saying about Nolan Traore

On3 resident NBA Draft expert James Fletcher III broke down the scouting report on Traore. He’s been going up and down draft boards coming into June.

“Nolan Traore has moved up and down the board over the past year, going from the Top 5 conversation to the lottery fringe after a difficult start in Europe,” Fletcher III wrote. “While he has shown the major ups and concerning downs, promise remains high for what the lead guard could become. Given the amount of time it takes many young guards to adjust to professional competition, his late-season surge should rebuild stock.”

Furthermore, consistency is key for Traore if he is going to be a successful NBA player. Fletcher III had more:

“The early hype for Nolan Traore pushed him near the top of NBA Draft boards, but quickly fell off when he struggled to settle into his role during the regular season and has fluctuated multiple times since then,” Fletcher III wrote. “Playing more than 20 minutes per game, he has taken on a large role, averaging 11.5 points with a usage percentage nearing 30.

“Inconsistency is a major issue which Traore must address to find NBA success, and that could be years away given the trajectory of most point guards entering the league. The potential payoff is still high enough to keep him ranked highly in a class which lacks sure things in the teens but comes with sizeable risk.”
