The Milwaukee Bucks failed to advance past the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs after losing to the Indiana Pacers recently, a series that was further marred by the devastating injury suffered by star guard Damian Lillard.
With Lillard on the shelf, the Bucks didn't have enough bullets in the chamber to conquer a younger, seemingly hungrier Pacers team, culminating in a venting of frustrations by Giannnis Antetokounmpo on Tyrese Haliburton's father John and a scuffle between the two teams.
On Saturday, the Bucks provided an update on the status of their long distance sniper, closing the loop on a season of promise and, ultimately, disappointment.
"Damian Lillard underwent successful surgery today to repair a torn left Achilles tendon," the Bucks X' account wrote.
"The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, with consultation from Bucks orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Carole Vetter."
Lillard averaged 24.9 points per game this season with the Bucks. He chipped in 7.1 assists per game and 4.7 rebounds per game, an impressive supporting statistic considering he stands just 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs just 195 pounds in a sport of giants.
The Bucks have plenty of time to think about their future, Lillard included.
A full recovery by Lillard will provide clarity as GM Jon Horst and his front office plot out the team's next course of action.
