Bucks' Brook Lopez out indefinitely after back surgery

The Milwaukee Bucks recently added four-time All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins to account for the absence of Brook Lopez, who hasn't played since he went down with a back injury in the season-opening win over the Brooklyn Nets and had no timetable to return as of earlier this week.

It's now known Lopez will remain sidelined indefinitely.

The Bucks confirmed Thursday that Lopez has had successful back surgery in Los Angeles.

"The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins with oversight by Bucks team physician Dr. William Raasch of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network," the club added in a brief statement.

"Lopez will continue to be listed as out and updates on his rehabilitation progress will be provided as appropriate."

Lopez tallied eight points, five rebounds, three blocks and a steal in his one and only appearance, to date, this season. He averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 2020-21.

Cousins debuted for the 14-8 Bucks in Wednesday's 127-125 win over the Charlotte Hornets and recorded seven points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in that victory.

Milwaukee plays at the 9-13 Toronto Raptors on Thursday night.
