The Milwaukee Bucks are just days away from tipping off their season against the Washington Wizards, and the team is looking to start strong. As opening night approaches, the front office has begun fine-tuning the roster with a few key moves.
According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Milwaukee Bucks have officially waived former first-round pick Johnny Davis. The team also parted ways with Jeremiah Tilmon on Friday as part of their roster adjustments before the season begins.
“The Milwaukee Bucks have waived Johnny Davis and Jeremiah Tilmon,” Smith wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Since going undrafted out of Missouri in 2021, Tilmon has taken a winding path through the G League and several international stops. His most recent stint came with the Shenzhen Leopards in China during the 2024–25 campaign. Much like Davis, he’s believed to have signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Milwaukee and is expected to continue his development with the Wisconsin Herd once training camp concludes.
Davis was selected 10th overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2022 NBA Draft, but his playing time steadily declined during his three seasons with the team. By the 2024-25 season, he averaged just 7.1 minutes per game, even though the Wizards ranked among the league’s weakest teams.
The 6-foot-5 guard failed to live up to expectations with the Wizards, spending parts of three seasons in Washington before being traded to Memphis in February. His time with the Grizzlies was brief, as he was released only a few weeks later without appearing in a single game.
The Bucks brought in Johnny Davis on an Exhibit 10 contract during the offseason, a one-year deal with a modest salary that can be converted into a two-way or standard NBA contract. However, Milwaukee now seems prepared to move on from Davis entirely.
Over three seasons, he has appeared in 112 games, averaging 3.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists while shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from three-point range.
With Davis no longer on the roster, the Bucks seem poised to rely on a backcourt rotation featuring Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., Cole Anthony, and AJ Green. Ryan Rollins and Gary Harris could also factor into the mix and see minutes at the guard spots throughout the 2025–26 season.
