ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Sunday that Milwaukee Bucks big man Bobby Portis Jr. has declined his $13.4 million player option. Following that decision, the Bucks confirmed that Portis will remain in Milwaukee after agreeing to a new deal. Ahead of the NBA free agency, the organization secured one of its core players.

According to Charania, Portis has agreed to sign a three-year, $44 million contract to stay with the Bucks. The new deal features a player option in the final year, which will be for the 2027-28 season.

Portis is one of the most important players for the team's bench unit. Over the past three seasons, Portis has finished in the top three of the Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Since the Bucks' elimination, he appeared as a guest on FanDuel TV's "Run It Back" multiple times. During one of his appearances, Portis talked about his love for the city of Milwaukee.

"I would love to be in Milwaukee, I love it here. They call me 'The Mayor' here, right? So, it's kinda hard to leave a city where you're like you're the mayor," Portis said.

"It's gonna be up in the air with how they maneuver the roster, whatever they want to bring back... Not my decision to know if I want to come back to the Bucks or whether they want to resign me."

The Bucks acquired Portis in 2020 and instantly made an impact as a bench player, helping the team win the NBA title the same season. Since then, he's been one of the most important pieces that Milwaukee hasn't been willing to let go.

During Portis' five seasons with the Bucks, he's averaged 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
