The Cavaliers are back in the Giannis Antetokounmpo conversation.
Again. Or so they say.
According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Bucks came close to moving Giannis Antetokounmpo at the 2026 trade deadline before ultimately holding off.
The asking price was steep, as expected. Per the report, Milwaukee showed interest in young building blocks, including Cavs big man Evan Mobley and 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe.
That alone tells you the type of deal we are talking about.
Mobley is not just a promising player. He is already one of the league’s best two-way bigs and a Defensive Player of the Year winner.
If his name is coming up, it is because Milwaukee would be looking for a true franchise-caliber return.
The Bucks and Antetokounmpo are expected to revisit everything this offseason. Milwaukee can offer an extension in October. If that does not happen, the noise will only get louder.
Still, there are layers here.
The Cavs are trying to win right now. The addition of James Harden raised expectations.
This is a team that has not advanced past the second round in the Donovan Mitchell era and understands what is at stake this postseason.
So whatever Cleveland does, or does not do, likely starts there.
How far this group goes will shape everything.
There is also the reality of the division. It is not common to see a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber dealt within the Central. That does not make it impossible. It just adds another wrinkle.
And then there is the bigger picture.
This is a conversation for the summer. Not now.
The Cavs have more immediate priorities. The playoffs are coming, and those results tend to answer a lot of questions on their own.
