Bucks tap Doc Rivers' ex-assistant Pete Dominguez to join coaching staff
USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Bucks have added a new strategic voice and presence to their revamped coaching staff.

Sources bared Eric Nehm of The Athletic that Milwaukee added Pete Dominguez as an assistant coach for Doc Rivers. Dominguez holds a significant connection with Rivers as he was previously a head video coordinator for the L.A. Clippers (2018-2020) and a coaching associate for the Philadelphia 76ers (2020-2023).

Dominguez already appeared on the Bucks' sidelines during the team's Wednesday road tilt against the Portland Trail Blazers.

A challenging but rewarding decision

Before leaving for the coaching opportunity in Milwaukee and reconnecting with Doc, Pete served as the head coach of the Argentine ball club Obras Sanitarias.

Though Obras's campaign remains in progress in Liga Nacional de Basquet, his departure is reportedly well accepted and gained strong support within the team.

"It was a very difficult decision to make because I am very happy with the club, the neighborhood, and this league. Doc Rivers is a very important person for me, and the team is a serious contender for an NBA title," Dominguez said in a statement.

Another new coaching face

Dominguez serves as the latest addition to Rivers' coaching staff. Upon his takeover in Milwaukee, the seasoned mentor also initially brought Dave Joerger and Rex Kalamian as his assistants.

Despite leading them to a 30-13 card and the second-best record in the East this season, the Bucks have notably sacked Adrian Griffin last month and immediately hired Rivers as his replacement.

Milwaukee has yet to win a game under Rivers, as the Bucks sustained their second-straight loss against the Blazers.
