The Bucks have requested waivers on forward Pete Nance, forward/center Johni Broome, and center Jake Stephens, the team announced today ( via Twitter).
While Broome and Stephens had been on Exhibit 10 contracts and were always considered likely to be cut before the season, Nance’s release is more noteworthy. His salary was non-guaranteed as well, but he was on a two-year contract and Jake Fischer reported this week that Milwaukee had hoped to retain him.
Re-signing Nance to a two-way deal remains possible if he clears waivers, as the Bucks do have an open slot, but Fischer suggested that Milwaukee’s front office has some concern about another team poaching him now that he’s on waivers.
The brother of Pacers big man Larry Nance Jr., Pete appeared in 47 games for Milwaukee last season, averaging 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per contest while making 51.5% of his shots from the floor, including 42.0% of his three-point tries.
Broome, a 2025 second-round pick who spent his rookie year in Philadelphia, and Stephens, a former undrafted free agent who has played in the G League and overseas in recent years, are both likely to end up with the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s G League affiliate.
Despite today’s three cuts, the Bucks’ roster isn’t yet ready for the regular season. The team is still carrying 16 players on fully guaranteed standard contracts and will need to trade or waive one of those players before Monday’s deadline to set regular season rosters.
