Bulls All-Star Zach LaVine questionable Saturday vs. Cavaliers; guard Alex Caruso could return from seven-week absence

After racing through most of the first half of the 2021-2022 NBA season, the Chicago Bulls have been one of the more inconsistent teams in the last two months. The Bulls were 26-10 following their ninth consecutive win on Jan. 7 against the Washington Wizards, but have gone 14-16 since then.

Injuries have hurt head coach Billy Donovan's club, but on some nights they've still looked dominant — as evidenced by a recent six-game winning streak — whereas they've fallen flat on other evenings (a five-game losing skid that ended on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons. Darnell Mayberry had a pair of injury updates for Chicago on Friday afternoon, one positive piece and one possibly concerning note.

LaVine is currently second on the team in points (24.6) and minutes per game (34.8), third in assists per contest (4.5), and has posted a .482/.395/.859 shooting line.

Caruso was ruled out for at least six weeks after suffering a fractured wrist following a hard, flagrant foul against controversial guard Grayson Allen of the Milwaukee Bucks.

After spending four seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, Caruso signed a four-year deal with the Bulls in the offseason as a free agent. He was averaging a career-high 27.7 minutes per game with 8.4 points, 3.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds before going down with the injury.
