The Chicago Bulls have continued to hover around the .500 mark with little sense of long-term direction as a franchise, fueling uncertainty surrounding the future of Coby White.
The 25-year-old shooting guard is entering the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, making his performance this season especially important for both his career trajectory and the Bulls’ roster decisions.
White has remained a reliable offensive option for Chicago, averaging 20.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 44.5% from the field and 32.4% from 3-point range across 15 games.
Although his efficiency has been underwhelming, he still has time to find his rhythm after missing the start of the year with a calf injury. His shot-making off the dribble, transition speed and playmaking skills are vital to the Bulls’ offense.
Unfortunately, White’s momentum has once again come to a halt. During Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he got off to a slow start in his first seven minutes of action.
He did not attempt a shot but managed to collect two assists before leaving the floor. White never returned for a second stint, appearing to reaggravate the calf injury that had already cost him time earlier this season.
At halftime, the Bulls announced an update on his status, confirming he had suffered a calf injury and would not return. “UPDATE: Coby White (calf) will not return tonight,” the team posted on X.

The setback is significant for both White and the Bulls. Every performance matters as Chicago weighs whether to keep him as part of its long-term core or explore trade options.
The Bulls will continue to monitor his status closely, knowing his health could shape the trajectory of the franchise.
Now in his seventh season with the Bulls since being selected seventh overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, White has experienced the ups and downs of a franchise searching for stability. Despite his growth as a scorer and playmaker, Chicago has failed to find postseason success during his tenure.
