Bulls Cool Down Heat, 119-111

With a 119-111 victory over the Miami Heat, the Chicago Bulls secured home-court advantage if they remain the ninth seed. According to Sun Sentinel insider Ira Winderman, the Miami players were well aware of the Bulls’ strategy to rest players on the first night of a back-to-back, aiming to be prepared for this specific matchup.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was also ready with a physical zone-to-zone defense, particularly targeting Coby White. Nevertheless, Josh Giddey, Kevin Huerter, and Nikola Vucevic were the main contributors to the Bulls’ offense throughout the game.

The Heat's game plan proved effective in the first quarter, forcing White to miss all four of his shot attempts as the pesky guard Davion Mitchell slowed him down. However, a surprising offensive connection between Huerter and Giddey developed. Giddey's off-ball movement, in particular, caught both fans and Heat players off guard. Miami finished the quarter with a five-point lead, winning the three-point battle against the Bulls.

The pendulum swung in favor of the Bulls in the second quarter, led by none other than Giddey. Huerter acted as the conductor for the Bulls’ offense, finding Giddey on each of his cuts to the basket. Dalen Terry closed out the half with a three-pointer, putting the Bulls up by six points.

Coming out of the half, the Bulls did not slow down. However, the Heat did not wave the white flag either, as they began to make the Bulls regret going under the screen instead of over to contest their three-pointers.

After realizing he was unlikely to get the foul calls he sought, Coby White came alive in the final quarter, scoring 12 points. The Miami Heat's Tyler Herro scored 11 points, including a missed breakaway three-pointer that would have brought the game within a single possession. As the game came down to the wire, Kevin Huerter secured a loose ball and found Matas Buzelis for a clutch three-pointer to seal the win.
