Bulls Cut Four Camp Invitees

The Bulls have made four cuts following the conclusion of the preseason, announcing today (via Twitter) that wings Brandon Boston Jr. and Drew Peterson, forward Jalen Bridges, and center Orlando Robinson have been placed on waivers.

Each of those four players has some previous NBA regular season experience and got a chance to play in at least three preseason games for the Bulls this month. Of the four, Robinson played the most minutes and was the most productive during the past couple weeks, averaging 6.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 11.5 minutes per game over the course of three outings.

Chicago is only carrying 14 players on guaranteed standard contracts and isn’t facing any sort of cap or tax crunch, so the team could’ve kept any one of those camp invitees as its 15th man to open the regular season.

However, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network (Twitter link) says the plan is to kept that 15th spot open for the sake of flexibility for now. As Johnson notes, the Bulls’ three two-way players all had strong preseasons, so the team isn’t worried about its depth for the time being, despite dealing with some preseason injuries.

It’s possible all four players cut today by Chicago will end up with the Windy City Bulls in the G League this fall if they don’t find other opportunities. Windy City made trades this offseason to acquire the returning rights to Peterson, Bridges, and Robinson and should be able to designate Boston as an affiliate player.

Boston, Peterson, Bridges, and Robinson would each earn a $91K bonus by spending at least 60 days in the G League.
