Bulls off to best start since Michael Jordan was on team

The only undefeated team left in the East is … Chicago.

The Bulls moved to 5-0 with a 135-125 win over the Knicks on Friday and this is the Bulls’ best start since 1996-97. Yes, a Michael Jordan year. Yes, that’s wild.

And yeah, the locker room was in celebration mode but also self-aware. Josh Giddey basically said it’s cool, but it’s early.

Per ESPN’s Jamal Collier, Giddey said the group loves where they’re at but knows there’s a long way to go.

Giddey didn’t just talk — he was sensational. Career-high 32 points. Ten rebounds. Nine assists.

He splashed four threes in the first half and the Bulls jumped out by 19. On the season Giddey is sitting at 22 points, 8 assists and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 48% and 45% from three.

He said it feels like a place where he’s wanted, and it shows.

Beyond Giddey, six Bulls reached double-figures and they piled up 31 assists on 45 makes. Deep. Connected. Fast. It’s been a fun watch.

And it hasn’t been soft competition. Four of the five wins have come against projected East playoff teams — Knicks, Magic, Hawks and Pistons.

Sunday they get the Knicks again, this time at MSG. Then Philly comes in Tuesday.

Billy Donovan, who just notched his 200th win as Bulls coach, pretty much summed it up. He said the belief is there, the relationships are there, but that it’s also just five games.

Still, five pretty good games.
