Bulls legends Alex Caruso and DeMar DeRozan officially debuted with their new teams Thursday. DeRozan, now a member of the Sacramento Kings, dropped 26 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves in a close loss. Caruso logged a +19 rating to help the Oklahoma City Thunder secure a win over the Denver Nuggets.
With both players having good performances, Bulls fans are left with more questions than answers about the team’s future. Rising forward Keegan Murray managed 23 points alongside DeRozan, leaving Bulls fans to wonder if Patrick Williams was really being held back by the veteran during his time in Chicago.

5 midrange FGA and knocked down 3 which is an intriguing development. Also hit 5 3s, played 42 min, got busy on the glass, & continues to look solid defensively as he did last year. 6'8 24yo has a controlled all-around game. pic.twitter.com/qTkUK2VLGh
In spite of an unspectacular Bulls regular-season debut, Josh Giddey was named to John Hollinger of The Athletic's NBA All-Breakout Team for the 2024-25 season.
Hollinger reasoned that Giddey has a larger opportunity for player development on the Bulls roster compared to his role last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
A real breakout is one of opportunity, in the form of minutes and touches, rather than one of rapidly changing levels of play.
