Byron Scott Believes Bronny James Could Benefit From One More Year In College
James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Byron Scott weighed in on Bronny James' decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility, suggesting that one more year of college basketball could benefit the young prospect. Speaking on the matter, Scott acknowledged Bronny's skills and basketball IQ but emphasized the potential advantages of another year in college.

"Not surprised, not shocked. I think Bronny and, obviously, his dad and Klutch Sports, they've probably been thinking about this for a while and how to kind of go about it."

"So him entering his name in the draft and also in the portal -- I think he’s just weighing his options to see where he can probably get drafted, and then if he doesn’t like that and likes a situation where he can go play college basketball for another year, then I think it’s the best of both worlds."

"I think he’s in a great position. You know what, to be honest with you, I think one more year of college wouldn’t hurt him. I think he has some great skills, there’s no doubt about that -- he knows how to play the game, he’s got a great basketball IQ, but playing one more year and being almost kind of featured, I think would really really solidify him in the next NBA Draft."

Scott highlighted that Bronny has shown great skills on the court and possesses a solid understanding of the game. However, he believes that another year of college basketball, where Bronny could potentially be featured more prominently, could further solidify his position in the NBA Draft. Scott suggested that being given a more prominent role on a college team could help showcase Bronny's abilities and enhance his draft stock.

With Bronny's name now in the transfer portal after USC coach Andy Enfield left for SMU, it remains uncertain if he will return to USC or explore other opportunities in college basketball. Scott speculated on potential suitors for Bronny, including schools like Ohio State and Oregon, which were finalists for him out of high school.

Overall, Scott sees Bronny as being in a favorable position, having the option to explore both the NBA Draft and college basketball for another year. By keeping his options open, Bronny can assess his opportunities and make an informed decision about his future in basketball.

Byron Scott's perspective underscores the importance of considering all factors in Bronny's development as a player and highlights the potential benefits of further college experience before making the leap to the professional ranks.

Bronny James Made A Really Smart Choice By Keeping His Options Open

By declaring for the NBA Draft, Bronny is signaling his readiness to take the next step in his basketball journey. While his collegiate season may not have gone as planned, Bronny is still hopeful that an NBA team will recognize his talent and give him an opportunity to showcase his skills at the professional level. This decision shows Bronny's confidence in his abilities and determination to pursue his dreams, regardless of the challenges he has faced.

Moreover, Bronny's willingness to enter the transfer portal indicates his desire for a fresh start and a chance to make a stronger case for himself in the future. By seeking out new opportunities at different universities, Bronny aims to reignite his passion for the game and further develop his skills in a supportive environment. This strategic move underscores Bronny's commitment to his craft and his willingness to put in the work necessary to succeed.

Furthermore, Bronny's openness to potentially playing alongside his father, LeBron James, in the NBA adds another layer of intrigue to his decision-making process. While it may not happen immediately, the prospect of sharing the court with one of the greatest basketball players of all time is undoubtedly enticing for Bronny. This ambition reflects Bronny's confidence in his abilities and his desire to leave a lasting legacy in the sport.
