On Saturday, ESPN’s Shams Charania posted on X, “The Houston Rockets are trading Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards for two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. The deal gives Whitmore a tremendous opportunity for an increased role as he turns 21 on Tuesday and returns to the DMV area.” Whitmore is an Odenton, Maryland, native. Odenton, Md., is northeast of Washington, D.C., and approximately 31 miles from “The Nation’s Capital.”
Whitmore attended Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland. Whitmore was named the Capital Gazette Boys Basketball Player of the Year as a high school senior. He played one season at Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before entering the 2023 NBA Draft. The Rockets selected the Villanova star with the 20th overall pick. Whitmore averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, along with a 44.4% shooting percentage from the field, during the 2024-25 NBA regular season.
The Houston Rockets reportedly traded Cam Whitmore to recoup two draft picks, while the Washington Wizards received a potential franchise cornerstone. His past two seasons show a promise of a scoring punch after the Wizards reportedly agreed to trade Jordan Poole to the New Orleans Pelicans.
