The Houston Rockets may have lost their overtime game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but the play of the day certainly belongs to Turkish big man Alperen Sengun.
While Sengun might be blamed for Houston’s recent struggles, there’s no doubt that he wanted to against the Wolves. After a turnover by Kevin Durant, the Timberwolves pushed the ball, looking to break the tie score in regulation. Julius Randle thought he had the layup when he blew past KD, but Alperen Sengun was there for the block.
After the buzzer sounded in regulation, cameras picked up Sengun’s bloodied lips from the play.

That may be the highest Sengun has ever jumped in his entire life. The top of his head was at the backboard level, almost near the rim. Sadly, despite his heroic efforts, the Rockets fell to the Wolves in overtime, 110-108.
Minnesota was led by Jaden McDaniels’ 25 points. Julius Randle shot the ball poorly, but still ended up with 24. Alperen Sengun and Kevin Durant both had 30 points for the losing team.
There’s no denying that the Houston Rockets are struggling as of late. They only went 5-5 in their last 10 games. Something has to be done because this team is clearly a tier or two behind the likes of the Thunder and the Spurs.
If reports are to be believed, the Rockets are eyeing a trade for Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in the offseason. “The Houston Rockets are expected to make a ‘major run’ at Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason,” per Chris Mannix.
A Giannis Antetokounmpo-Alperen Sengun frontcourt? That would be extremely scary. And the impressive thing is that this team will be able to pull off such a trade without dealing away most of its core guys.
