Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama isn’t widely viewed as a dirty player. And that’s why Dylan Harper was inarguably shocked when he saw what Wemby did to Naz Reid in game four between San Antonio and Minnesota.
After a rebound play, Wembanyama tried to secure the ball – a standard practice in the league. However, he inexplicably swung his right elbow directly at Naz Reid’s neck and face, which resulted in a mini scuffle on the court. After the situation was diffused, the refs reviewed the play and ejected Wemby from the game. But during the incident, Dylan Harper was surprised by his teammate’s physicality aimed at Reid.

His reaction was priceless. He even looked like he couldn’t believe that Victor Wembanyama had done something like that. We all know that basketball is a physical sport, but that play looked intentional. We can even see the Spurs star’s facial reaction before his elbow hits Reid. It’s like he was bracing for an impact.
There’s no denying that the 7-foot-4 beanpole from France has become a major force on the floor for the Spurs, especially on the defensive end. Whether his blocked shots were controversial or not, not everybody is happy about it. In today’s world, opposing coaches can easily review certain plays, thanks to videos everywhere. Wolves head coach Chris Finch said Wemby has done a lot of goaltending against his team.
“Yeah, he [Victor Wembanyama] had a lot of blocks. He had a couple of uncalled goaltendings, too. So, those are valuable points we’d like to have back,” Finch said earlier in the Spurs-Wolves series.
Truth be told, some of Wemby’s blocks were indeed goaltending. However, due to his length, the referees have had a harder time calling them live. The series is now tied 2-2. But as previously mentioned, after being ejected for a flagrant 2 foul, Victor Wembanyama’s status for game five is in question.
