Amid a three-game winning streak, primarily due to Tyrese Haliburton's re-emergence, the Indiana Pacers seek an NBA Cup victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday. The Pacers have another successful stretch at stake in their contest at Little Caesars Arena as they have a five-game winning streak over the Pistons.
The Pacers have multiple reasons why winning on Friday is imperative to their momentum.
Over the past three games, Haliburton has recovered from an otherwise poor start to the 2024-25 season. He averaged 27.7 points on a fiery 48 percent mark from 3. In addition to the spike in scoring and efficiency, he's found his pocket as one of the better playmakers in the NBA, in light of his 10.7 assists.
However, unlike recent renditions of the Pistons, this team has grit in the tank. At 8-12, they aren't the worst franchise in the NBA. The last time the Pacers played the Pistons, it ended in a 115-109 victory for the Pacers on Oct. 23.
Unless Cade Cunningham sits due to his left sacroiliac joint sprain, the Pacers could find themselves in a blue-collar-level shift against the feisty Pistons.
However, given the Pacers' recent surge, it's plausible that their early-season woes, which led to a close contest against the Pistons, could end Friday's NBA Cup game without suspense.
