Carmelo Anthony‘s son, Kiyan, is on his journey to achieve his dreams of making it to the NBA. Even at high school, the younger Anthony has displayed an astounding style of play. In an interview with Overtime, Melo broke down the difference between how they both play.
As a four-star athlete, Kiyan has been offered several college spots. Next Friday, the son of the former star for the New York Knicks will make his decision on which college he will play for on his father’s show, “7PM in Brooklyn.” Before making his choice, Melo was asked what the key differences in their playing styles were.
“Majority of it [is from me],” Melo said. “I think, more of my game back then was, I was, at 16 [years old], I was a little bit more physical. I just had a different type of mentality because of how I was growing up and my upbringing, and what I was around in my environment.”
“My ‘why’ was a lot different. He has skills that I didn’t have. His court vision, at this level is very high. His shot making ability is high. And I think people look at him for being able to make shots, and take away from his actual playmaking and IQ of the game.”

According to ESPN, Kiyan is ranked 36th in the nation for the Class of 2025. Several institutions have offered him admission, including Syracuse, the university his father used to play for before getting drafted into the NBA in 2003.
Carmelo Anthony looks forward to Friday when his son Kiyan will choose the college team he will play for. When Anthony appeared on the “House of Craft” on Wednesday, he revealed that he prepared a present for his son.
“It would be something that he can like really keep and cherish and like have value to it. I mean and hopefully God’s willing he will be able to go out there and buy his own watches but the watch that I’m going to get him may not be able to wear this every single day,” Melo said (17:20).
“Because I want you (Kiyan) to keep that in the safe and only bring that out if you have to but yeah it’ll be something very thoughtful something that’s very curated in a sense of you know looking at it at from a big picture and what this time piece really means,” Carmelo Anthony said.
