The Los Angeles Lakers are no longer LeBron James' team. He's about to be a free agent, and they seem fully committed to the younger Luka Doncic, as they should.
James has drawn criticism this season for his comments about his team. He doesn't seem fully engaged, and at times, it looks like he's only playing to keep stacking numbers and accolades.
None of that matters, at least to Carmelo Anthony. In the latest edition of his "7PM in Brooklyn," the former All-Star shared his honest thoughts on James' situation.
Per Anthony, the NBA still revolves around the four-time NBA champion. However, he's been around for so long that he's become a villain.
“He’s living long enough to be the villain,” Anthony said. “Still holding this league down. This league don’t move without Bron. I don’t give a (expletive) what nobody say. It don’t move without Bron. Until he’s gone. His position in this game is bigger than wins and losses throughout the season.”
James has always been a polarizing figure. Some anointed him as the greatest to ever do it, but his losing record in the NBA Finals and the never-ending comparisons to Michael Jordan have also garnered him a big list of detractors.
Whatever the case, James has earned the right to go out on his own terms. If he doesn't feel valued in Los Angeles and wants to keep playing, many other teams would be more than thrilled to get him a roster spot.
At the end of the day, professional athletes can't please everybody, especially in the social media era. Regardless, James' resume speaks for itself.
