The 2025-2026 NBA regular season is on its last legs, and this is usually the time to talk about the league’s Most Valuable Player candidates. People have different opinions on the matter, but former star Carmelo Anthony is confident with his choice on who’s going to take home the hardware.
The race has been tight, with OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s name often mentioned as the frontrunner. Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama is frequently mentioned, too, due to his team’s sudden rise. Luka Doncic is also building a solid case for the prestigious award.
But Carmelo Anthony explained why SGA deserves to win the MVP award in back-to-back years.
“The players know who the real MVP is. That’s all that matters….. To me I think it’s clear cut. I think it’s SGA [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander]. Best team in the NBA. Best player on the team. That’s hard to argue, and the man averaging 30. When you see a MVP, you know,” per Carmelo Anthony in ‘7PM in Brooklyn’.

Many people in the media share Anthony’s sentiment. The Oklahoma City Thunder are poised to secure the best regular-season record this year. And with SGA recently breaking one of Wilt Chamberlain’s records, it would be surprising if he doesn’t win the award again this season.
Whenever a season winds down, it’s not just the MVP debate that rages on. Inexplicably, this is also the time when people debate who’s the greatest of all time in basketball. Carmelo Anthony may not admit his personal choice, but he sure is alluding to LeBron James when he made a statement about it a few weeks ago.
“He’s living long enough to be the villain… Still holding this league down. This league don’t move without Bron. I don’t give a f--- what nobody say. It don’t move without Bron. Until he’s gone. His position in this game is bigger than wins and losses throughout the season,” Carmelo said about LeBron.
That GOAT debate will get much more heated, especially if LeBron James wins another title with LA this season.
