The Milwaukee Bucks made one of the most shocking moves of NBA free agency on Tuesday. While signing center Myles Turner was shocking, the cutting of Damian Lillard was even more so. The sharpshooting guard tore his Achilles in the playoffs and was looking at a long rehab. Milwaukee decided to spread out the remaining money and move on. Some people didn’t take kindly to this move, including Carmelo Anthony, who slammed the Bucks organization for the move.

Carmelo Anthony Slams Milwaukee Bucks For Lack Of Loyalty

Carmelo Anthony spent a year with the Portland Trail Blazers playing with Lillard. He came to the defense of his former teammate on social media. On ESPN’s post, the former Syracuse star commented, “NO LOYALTY IN SPORTS!!!” The timing definitely doesn’t look great. Lillard will likely miss all of next season rehabbing his Achilles injury. Basically, the Milwaukee Bucks said they are in a win-now mode, and an aging star rehabbing an injury was not part of the plan.

However, sports are a business. Teams are also taking on the attitude of many players. Loyalty in the NBA has been non-existent for years, with players changing teams constantly. In some cases, stars force their way out, demanding trades to other contenders. Anthony himself did this to the Denver Nuggets when he basically forced his way to New York. The Bucks are under pressure to win with Giannis Antetokounmpo still in his prime. They made a decision to cut a player who could not help them now and get one who could.

Final Thoughts

Reports also indicate Lillard is excited about the move. He is now a free agent and can sign with any team he wants. Other teams won’t have to give up a boatload of picks and talent to get him. He will also have a chip on his shoulder, eager to show the Milwaukee Bucks he still has plenty left in the tank. The Bucks made a business decision. Will it work out for them?
