It’s not just the Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat who had a substantial interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo in February. The Cleveland Cavaliers were in it as well.
There were a lot of trade rumors surrounding the two-time league MVP around the trade deadline. While Giannis wishes he could have done something to temper the unnecessary noise, the truth is that many teams would want to acquire his services, especially the fringe contenders. The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of them. However, Milwaukee’s asking prices were too high for their liking.
“The Cavaliers, league sources say, contacted the Bucks about Giannis [Antetokounmpo] before the deadline as well … and were told it would take Evan Mobley and all of Cleveland’s available draft capital to get it done. That’s a trade construction that presumably would have Mobley stans scoffing, but it’s a move that no shortage of rival executives I’ve discussed it with say they would make,” per Jake Fischer.
The Cavaliers reportedly contacted the Bucks about a potential trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but Milwaukee wanted Evan Mobley and all of their available first-round picks, per @JakeLFischer

Evan Mobley plus picks for the one-time champ? That would have been reasonable. While many people are fond of Mobley’s potential, he hasn’t truly made that leap to superstardom. Many pundits thought he’d be a Kevin Garnett-type player. But as the years have passed, that hasn’t come into fruition.
Whether the Bucks are serious or not about their intention of trading away Giannis in the offseason, it’s safe to assume that they’ll have plenty of suitors for him. Despite his injury-stricken season, when healthy, Antetokounmpo is still a top-five player in the NBA. Curiously, recent reports suggest that the Boston Celtics may become a dark-horse team to land the Bucks’ superstar in the summer.
“After a shocking first-round exit, the Celtics become a very intriguing wildcard team if they want to enter the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes this summer. Boston can offer Jaylen Brown and draft compensation to Milwaukee for Giannis, which is a near-identical salary match,” Evan Sidery reported.
If that deal goes down, that would be a great way to shift some power dynamics within the league. Definitely going to be an interesting offseason for the Bucks and Giannis.
