Cavaliers' Rajon Rondo out two weeks with toe sprain

The Cavaliers will be without yet another one of their key contributors for the imminent future as they look to follow up on their strong season coming out of the All-Star Break.

Rajon Rondo will be sidelined for approximately two weeks with a toe sprain, per a team press release. He will undergo treatment and rehabilitation and be re-evaluated after that time.

Rondo suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the Cavaliers' loss to the Pistons on Thursday night. He underwent an MRI at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health on Friday to understand the severity.

Cleveland is already experiencing enough injury troubles as is. All-Star guard Darius Garland missed Thursday's game with back soreness, and newly acquired wing Caris LeVert is out for one-to-two weeks with a sprained right foot. They've also lost guards Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio for the season due to knee injuries.

Rondo started Thursday's contest at point guard due to Garland's absence, but now the Cavs will have to find another way to fill the role until either can return. They signed journeyman point guard Tim Frazier to a 10-day contract Friday evening.

Since being acquired via a three-team trade with the Lakers and Knicks at the start of the new year, Rondo has been a strong rotational piece for the blossoming Cavs. For the season, he's averaging five points, three rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while playing an average of 21.7 minutes a night.
