Cavaliers reportedly exploring trade options for Collin Sexton

Collin Sexton was one of the best Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2020-21 campaign. However, it appears the franchise could be ready to move on from him this summer.

According to Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated, the Cavs have begun exploring trade options for Sexton.

"There's belief around the league that Cleveland prefers to move on from Sexton, rather than sign him to a deal that would greatly inhibit their flexibility moving forward," Woo writes.

Now that the Cavs own the third overall pick in this year's draft, moving on from Sexton seems like a logical choice. Oklahoma State's Cade Cunningham, Gonzaga's Jalen Suggs or Jalen Green could be available when they're on the clock.

Rumors of the Cavaliers being open to trading Sexton are not new. Sexton and his agent are reportedly seeking a near-max extension, and Cleveland would be cap-strained if it were to give the 22-year-old that kind of money because it also has to re-sign Jarrett Allen.

According to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, Cleveland executives were so determined for Sexton to become the face of the franchise that they even ordered coaches not to be too hard on him.

Still, Sexton should be a strong trade candidate. He led the Cavaliers in scoring this season, averaging a career-high 24.3 points per game on 47.5% shooting from the field and 37.1% shooting from deep.

It's unclear which teams might be interested in acquiring the Georgia native.
