Cavaliers sign stud rebounder Moses Brown to 10-day contract

The Cavaliers are adding a promising young big man to what is already one of the top young teams in the league.

Cleveland is signing center Moses Brown to a 10-day contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. Brown was released last month by the Mavericks when they acquired Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans from the Wizards.

Brown struggled to find consistent playing time in Dallas after flashing immense potential in Oklahoma City during the prior season. He appeared in 26 games and made one start, but averaged just 6.5 minutes per game.

It came as a bit of a surprise that Brown couldn't carve out a role with the Mavericks, as he looked to be a player on the rise to watch with the Thunder in 2020-21. Brown averaged 8.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game with Oklahoma City, making 32 starts over 43 total appearances. He had 17 games in which he logged double-digit rebounds and six where he had more than 15, including a 21 point, 23 rebound effort against the Celtics.

It won't be easy for Brown to earn playing time with the playoff-bound Cavaliers, but if they give him a chance, he could provide a spark on the boards to a team middle of the pack in rebounding. Cleveland ranks tied for 14th in the league with Minnesota in rebounds per game at 44.7.

Brown went undrafted out of UCLA in 2019. He began his career on a two-way contract with the Trail Blazers before signing on with the Thunder the following season. He was traded to the Celtics along Al Horford and a pick for Kemba Walker and picks this past summer, though Boston flipped him to Dallas by the end of the offseason.
