Cavaliers to pursue trade for 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons?

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Ben Simmons reportedly doesn't plan to show up for the start of training camp and wishes to be traded ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season, and he's been linked with a handful of clubs such as the Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, and Sacramento Kings in rumors and stories.

It appears another team has entered the figurative chat.

NBA insider Marc Stein released updated NBA power rankings on Tuesday and somewhat casually mentioned the Cleveland Cavaliers have their "hat in the ring to try to pry Ben Simmons from the Sixers." Stein noted that Cleveland recently acquiring Lauri Markkanen from the Chicago Bulls could merely be a precursor to the Cavs trading Markkanen and his team-friendly contract to land Simmons.

Ben Axelrod of Cleveland's WKYC explained that NBA rules prevent the Cavaliers from trading Markkanen until Dec. 15 at the earliest. Axelrod added Philadelphia could potentially be interested in promising Cleveland guard Collin Sexton this fall or winter.

"The Cavs also possess a number of younger, intriguing players, and perhaps more importantly, all of their future first-round draft picks," Axelrod wrote.

It's believed the 76ers want a proven All-Star, draft choices, and pick swaps in a trade for Simmons.
