Cavaliers assistant coach DeMarre Carroll might be going with a former Cavaliers assistant who is now the head coach of the Phoenix Suns, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

That would be none other than Jordan Ott, who was officially introduced as Suns coach on Tuesday. He spent one season as an assistant under Kenny Atkinson in Cleveland. Atkinson, of course, was also in his first year with the Cavaliers.

Per Fedor, Carroll might not be the only current Cavs assistant coach to join Ott in Phoenix. But he was the only name reported for now.

Carroll, 38, played in the NBA for eight teams from 2009-2020. Since retiring, he has served as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Cavs.

Ott, 43, beat out Cavs associate head coach Johnnie Bryant for the Suns gig. Ott and Bryant were believed to be the two finalists for the position.

“I’ve earned the right to be here,” Ott said Tuesday during his introductory press conference. “I’ve spent 20 years working as hard as I possibly can. I’ve been around great people, great coaches, great players… I know I’ve earned this opportunity. That excites me.”
