Cavaliers guard Darius Garland is nearing his season debut.
A source told ClutchPoints’ Spencer Davies that Garland has been “scrimmaging and everything” in practice with no restrictions after recovering from offseason toe surgery.
The Cavs are being cautious with his timeline, but multiple sources recently told Hoops Wire that a return in the first half of November is realistic.
Garland was briefly assigned to the G League’s Cleveland Charge earlier this week to ramp up his conditioning before rejoining the main roster. The move was more procedural than anything — a chance for the two-time All-Star to shake off rust before game action.
The 25-year-old tried to play through the toe injury late last postseason but wasn’t himself as the Cavs were eliminated by the Pacers in the second round.
Garland is coming off one of the best all-around seasons of his career, averaging 20.6 points and 6.7 assists while shooting a career-high 47.2% from the field. His 75 games were also a career best.
The Cavs (3-2) play four of their next five at home, beginning Friday against the Raptors.
In related news, they could also be without center Jarrett Allen. We have that full story here.
