Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell, Lakers’ LeBron James Named Players of Week

Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for a second time this season, with the NBA making its latest announcement Monday.

Lakers star forward LeBron James, who led the Cavs to the title in 2016, was named West Player of the Week.

Mitchell, 27, is in his first season with the Cavs after being a three-time All-Star with the Jazz. He is averaging a career-high 28.8 points — including a 71-point eruption last week against the Bulls. Not even James accomplished that feat in Cleveland.

For the week, Mitchell averaged 37.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds, as the Cavs (26-15) have won four of five.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have yet to lose since James turned 38-years old on Dec. 31. In that span, they have gone 5-0, with James playing in four of those games. All of come without injured star big man Anthony Davis.

James averaged 35.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists for the week, marking his best stretch statistically of the season.
