While plenty of questions surround the Cavaliers after their Eastern Conference finals sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks, one thing appears fairly clear.
Namely, president of basketball operations Koby Altman is expected to remain in his current position.
Sources told Hoops Wire that there is no indication ownership is considering a front-office change, despite the Cavs’ disappointing finish and the NBA’s highest payroll.
That doesn’t mean the offseason will be quiet. Far from it.
As always, the Cavs are expected to evaluate everything from roster construction to the futures of impending free agents and extension candidates. But league sources continue to describe Altman as having strong standing internally.
The Cavs reached the conference finals for the first time since 2018, though the manner of the exit clearly left frustration throughout the organization.
Altman has led the front office since 2017 and has overseen the rebuild following LeBron James’ departure, helping construct a core built around Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and now, James Harden.
Now comes another pivotal summer.
But despite the noise surrounding the sweep, the expectation is that Altman will remain in charge as the Cavs attempt to retool a roster that fell short of preseason (and perhaps postseason) expectations.
