Cavs Make Franchise History After Fiery First Quarter vs. Bulls

The Cleveland Cavaliers love having big opening periods in the 2024-25 NBA season. Entering Friday, the Cavs were second in the league overall with an average of 32.2 first-quarter points per game. Taking command of a game early has been a major reason why the Cavs are having a terrific start to the season, having won all of their first 13 games.

The Cavaliers went to Friday's home game versus the Chicago Bulls looking to claim win No. 14, and, of course, Cleveland got off to a fiery start.

The Cavs lit up Chicago for 49 points in the first quarter to just 34 by the Bulls. That's a new franchise record for Cleveland, as noted as well by Jason Lloyd of The Athletic.

"The Cavs' 49 points in the first quarter tonight is another franchise record for points in any quarter. And they did it quite effortlessly," posted Lloyd on X.

How hot were the Cavs in that quarter? They shot 19-for-22 from the floor for an incredible 86 percent success rate on their field goal attempts. That's hard to sustain for the rest of the game, but the Cavaliers will gladly take advantage of a lackluster defense such as the one the Bulls showed in the first quarter.
