Cavs’ Max Strus getting close, practicing with Charge as return nears

The Cavaliers continue moving toward what they hope will be the season debut of Max Strus.

Strus practiced Wednesday with the Cleveland Charge and is expected to remain with the team for another practice Thursday, per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. A light workout Friday is also possible as part of his ramp-up process.

The veteran wing has not played this season after undergoing surgery in August to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot.

The good news? There have been no setbacks during his recent buildup, a source told Fedor.

If everything continues trending the right way, Strus could make his season debut Sunday when the Cavs return home to face the Mavericks.

The Cavs said last week that imaging showed “progressive healing” in Strus’ foot, allowing him to resume individual on-court work before moving into team activities.

Strus has been a steady part of Cleveland’s rotation the past two seasons, averaging 11.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 120 games, including 107 starts.

Whenever he returns, expect the Cavs to ease him back in. A minutes restriction for the remainder of the regular season appears likely.
