The Cavaliers are one of seven NBA teams still carrying an open two-way contract slot as preseason play gets underway, leaving room for one more player to earn a place on the roster.
Cleveland currently has two two-way players — Luke Travers and Nae’Qwan Tomlin — which leaves one slot unclaimed. And with several camp invites in the mix, the Cavs may have a real competition on their hands if they decide to use that spot right away.
Tristan Enaruna, Chaney Johnson, Miller Kopp and Norchad Omier headline the group of Exhibit 10 signees eligible for a two-way conversion.
Former No. 7 overall pick Killian Hayes is also in camp on an Exhibit 10, but with five years of NBA service under his belt, he’s not eligible for a two-way. His situation will be worth watching as the Cavs navigate early-camp injuries to Darius Garland and Max Strus.
The Cavs are far from alone. The Nets, Mavericks, Heat, Thunder, Magic, and Trail Blazers also have one two-way slot available.
League-wide, many of these teams are essentially holding open tryouts in camp, giving Exhibit 10 players a chance to prove they belong on a two-way deal.
That said, not all of them will fill their openings internally. As preseason roster cuts unfold, some intriguing two-way options could hit waivers or free agency, giving these seven clubs the chance to address their final slot from the open market.
Teams can continue swapping players on and off two-way deals until March 4, though players must be under contract by Jan. 7 to receive the full two-way salary ($636,435 this season).
For now, Cleveland’s final two-way spot remains up for grabs as the team enters preseason action Tuesday night against the Bulls.
